Tom Berryman is the fourth Music Director of the Boston Saengerfest Men’s Chorus. Tom has been working with the singers to build musicianship, vocal and performance skills and to develop repertoire. Tom also serves as Music Director and Organist for Christ Lutheran Church in Natick, MA.
From 1983-2013 Tom directed the music program at St. Mark’s School in Southborough, MA where he designed and administered comprehensive academic, choral, instrumental and private lesson programs. Tom held the Evill-Glavin Teaching Chair at St. Mark’s. His St. Mark’s Choirs traveled and performed regularly, including major concert tours to Italy, France, Germany, Spain, England and Japan. Before coming to St. Mark’s, Tom directed music programs at Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, FL, at Hawaii Preparatory Academy in Kamuela, HI and at Moravian Academy in Bethlehem, PA.
Tom holds degrees in organ performance and choral conducting from Susquehanna University and from the University of South Florida. His principal teachers were James Boeringer, Claire Coci and Robert Summer.
Tom is active in the Massachusetts American Choral Directors Association and has served as Repertoire and Standards Chair for Male Choruses and for Church Music.
A native of Arlington, VA, Tom lives in Watertown, MA with his wife, Joan Ellersick, a professional violist and teacher. He has four grown children and six grandchildren.
