Q: How experienced do I have to be?
A: At BSMC, we welcome all singing levels. Whether you are a college glee club alumnus, a minister, a doctor or lawyer seeking recreation, a retired professional seeking a communal atmosphere, a music major or a music enthusiast eager to learn, we want you to join our group!
Q: Do I have to travel?
A: No. We understand that sometimes finances do not allow our members to make the trips with us. However, we strongly encourage those to travel because of the amazing experiences we get to share on these trips. We do offer financial aid.
Q: How do I join?
A: Just drop into one of our rehearsals. The atmosphere is very friendly! You will be greeted warmly and loaned whatever music we are working on. Sit in the section you think you belong in and introduce yourself to those sitting around you. Or, if you would like to give us a heads up, that is great too. Bottom line, we want you there.
Q: Do I have to audition?
A: No. We want you to feel like a part of our group. If you enjoy yourself during your first rehearsal(s) and you would like to audition, just speak to the director.
Q: What type of repertoire does the chorus perform?
A: Our repertoire is broad, from Americana from the frontier to Broadway – men’s choral music in many styles and languages: traditional glee club, classic, popular, opera, musical theater. Our song choices, concert and theme based, guided by a simple assertion: “We Love to Sing.”
Q: Where do rehearsals take place?
A: We gather most Monday nights from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. at the First Parish Church, 349 Boston Post Road, Weston, MA.
Q: What is the commitment?
A: Besides weekly rehearsals, we require members to sing in three to five concerts a year and actively engage in being a part of the this self-governing group.
