Audition Information
Prospective singing members may audition throughout the year, however the best times to audition are in September and January of each year. All interested singers are encouraged to audition. Prior singing experience and some basic music reading skills are helpful.
The first step in joining Boston Saengerfest Men’s Chorus as a singer is to come to one of our rehearsals. We gather most Monday nights from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. at the First Parish Church (Unitarian), Weston, MA. You may come to any rehearsal unannounced, but we encourage you to contact us first via email (membership@saengerfest.org) or by calling 508-803-1909.
The atmosphere is very friendly and you will be greeted warmly and loaned whatever music we are working on. Sit in whatever section you think you belong in and introduce yourself to those sitting around you.
If after singing in three rehearsals you would like to audition, notify the director and he will set up an audition time for you. The audition is relaxed and informal and consists of singing a well-known song, testing your vocal range, sight-singing and an assessment of musical skills. You do not need to prepare a piece.
For membership in the chorus, you should be prepared to:
- Attend weekly rehearsals regularly.
- Be able to read music well enough to learn and memorize it for performances.
- Sing in four or five concerts a year.
- Provide your own uniform, which consists of a blue blazer with a Saengerfest pocket patch, Saengerfest necktie, uniform gray trousers, white shirt and black shoes and socks. The necktie, pocket patch and gray trousers can be purchased through Saengerfest.
We look forward to meeting you!
