About the Chorus

Boston Saengerfest Men’s Chorus is made up of approximately 70 male choristers based in the Greater Boston area. The men of Saengerfest enjoy the camaraderie of singing at weekly rehearsals and performing in four or five concerts each year. The traditional but wide-ranging repertoire includes folk songs, love songs, spirituals and sacred music, classical excerpts, traditional English and Welsh songs and anthems, and an occasional show tune.

The Men’s Chorus was officially formed in 1991 after some 45 members of the parent Saengerfest Chorus were invited by the officers of the London Welsh Male Voice Choir to participate in the latter’s Festival of Welsh Male Choirs in London’s Royal Albert Hall in October 1992. Since then the Men’s Chorus has sung numerous benefit concerts throughout New England supporting a variety of charities in their fund-raising efforts.

The Chorus has sung regularly in the biennial Albert Hall Welsh Male Chorus Festivals. Other performances have included Carnegie Hall, Salisbury and Winchester Cathedrals, Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts and on WGBH 89.7 FM. In addition to London, the group has also traveled to Vancouver and Toronto, Canada, and Lisbon, Portugal.

Sound Investment echoes the days of college à cappella groups. An outgrowth of the Boston Saengerfest Men’s Chorus and the parent organization, it was formed in 2003 to add another dimension to the Men’s Chorus concerts. The ensemble’s repertoire runs from barbershop to doo-wop and vocal jazz.

Boston Saengerfest Men’s Chorus is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Sponsor Us

The Men’s chorus has performed over 50 concerts for various organizations and charities to help them raise money. Some charities have raised as much as $50,000 from sponsoring a Saengerfest concert. The Chorus performs for only its expenses.

Sponsors provide a suitable concert venue with seating capacity adequate for their making a profit. Sponsors sell the tickets and keep the proceeds after paying all expenses including the Chorus’ minimal concert fee. The sponsors provide a tuned piano (and if available, a pipe organ) risers for the chorus, sound, lighting and custodial services. They also print, distribute and sell the tickets, provide publicity and ushers for the concert and often sell advertising in their program which they print and distribute.   Read more »
